Rising K-pop group BIG OCEAN held a fan showcase for their 3rd mini album, THE GREATEST BATTLE, giving fans a first look at the project that marks a new chapter in the group’s artistic journey. The event, held the evening of March 3, 2026 at SHOWKING KPop Center in Sangam-dong, Seoul, was also the group’s first official comeback showcase since their debut in April 2024, making it especially meaningful for the members and their fans, known as PADO. The event was livestreamed simultaneously for the benefit of PADO worldwide.

Hosted by comedian Park Geunbaek, the showcase included conversations about the album itself, performances, fan interactions, and special events such as a group photo session and post-show hi-touch with fans. Many attendees traveled from overseas to attend the event, reflecting the trio’s growing international fan base.

During the opening discussion, Big Ocean introduced the concept behind THE GREATEST BATTLE. The members explained that while the group’s earlier releases explored different themes—ranging from the refreshing, clean-cut concept of their debut album to the sensual, merman-inspired atmosphere of their second release—the new album explores a deeper narrative centered on struggle, perseverance, and victory.

The members shared that the album reflects their own experiences navigating the music industry as artists with hearing disabilities while also facing societal prejudice and ableism. However, they emphasized that the album’s message is universal.

“We have faced many battles ourselves, but we believe everyone has their own battles in life,” the members explained. “We wanted this album to encourage people who are fighting through their own difficult moments.”

A Story Told Through the Tracklist

One of the defining features of THE GREATEST BATTLE is that the album’s track order was intentionally designed to tell a story. According to the group, each song represents a different stage in a personal journey of growth.

The album opens with “Alive,” a declaration of survival and resilience in the face of adversity. The song represents the moment of realizing one’s strength and continuing to stand despite hardships.

Next comes the album’s title track, “One Man Army.” The song depicts the decision to step into battle alone, determined to fight against overwhelming odds.

The narrative continues with “Back,” a solo track performed by member Jiseok, which symbolizes returning stronger after experiencing pain and setbacks in the past.

The album concludes with “Cold Moon,” a song that explores emotional restraint and inner conflict. The members described the song as portraying a love that cannot be expressed freely, comparing the distance between two people to the relationship between the Moon and the Earth.

Through these songs, Big Ocean explained that the album forms a complete arc—from survival and determination to personal growth and emotional reflection.

“One Man Army”: Inspired by a Legendary Korean Battle

The centerpiece of the album, “One Man Army,” draws inspiration from the legendary naval battle led by Korean admiral Yi Sun Shin during the Battle of Myeongnyang in 1597. The historic battle saw a fleet of only twelve ships defeat an enemy force of over 130 vessels.

The members explained that this story resonated with them because it represents a seemingly impossible fight that ultimately ended in victory.

Musically, the track emphasizes its historical influence by incorporating elements inspired by traditional Korean music. The members also revealed that they participated directly in the song’s creative process.

While attending a songwriting camp in Spain, the group worked closely with producers to shape the song’s sound and concept. Because each member has different levels of hearing ability, they also provided input about which frequencies and sounds they could perceive best, helping guide the production process.

The group also contributed to the song’s lyrics and composition, making the track especially meaningful to them.

Cinematic Performance and Sign Language Choreography

The performance of “One Man Army” was one of the most visually striking moments of the showcase. The stage incorporated dramatic choreography inspired by naval warfare and featured twenty dancers portraying opposing forces.

A standout element of the choreography is the use of sign language tutting, a performance style that combines sign language movements with sharp, synchronized choreography. The group emphasized that this element was carefully developed to highlight their identity as a sign-language idol group.

The performance also includes formations representing ships setting sail and troops preparing for battle. The members explained that the choreography visually portrays the journey into conflict and the determination required to overcome adversity.

A Double Title Track with Emotional Depth

In addition to “One Man Army,” the album features “Cold Moon” as a double title track. The members revealed that selecting a second title track was not an easy decision, but the group agreed unanimously that “Cold Moon” deserved the spotlight.

While the album’s concept revolves around battles, the group noted that not all battles are fought externally – some are internal struggles of the heart. “Cold Moon” represents this emotional conflict, telling the story of feelings that cannot be openly expressed.

The song’s memorable chorus emphasizes the idea of two people who are drawn to each other but ultimately cannot be together, reinforcing the theme of restrained emotions.

A Solo Spotlight for Jiseok

Another highlight of the album is “Back,” a solo track performed by Jiseok. During the showcase, Jiseok shared that he wanted the opportunity to perform a solo track after seeing fellow member PJ release his own solo song on the group’s previous album.

“Back” tells the story of regaining confidence after past adversity. Jiseok explained that the message resonated with him personally, making the song especially meaningful.

He also joked that performing solo had its advantages, noting that mistakes on stage feel less stressful when there are no other members whose choreography might be affected.

Connecting With Fans Beyond Music

The album also includes several unique elements designed to deepen the connection with fans. For the first time, the album was released in four versions, including individual member editions.

The members also included playful quizzes hidden within the album packaging, encouraging fans to solve them together. Some hints have already been posted on the group’s social media platforms.

Additionally, the album contains two unexpected bonus audio tracks: a morning call and a lullaby recorded by the members. According to Big Ocean, the idea was to be present in fans’ lives both at the start and the end of their day.

The group also introduced battle-themed merchandise, including a special notebook inspired by the war diary kept by Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Fans were encouraged to use the notebook to record their own personal battles and experiences.

Looking Ahead

Toward the end of the showcase, the members shared their goals for the coming year. They expressed interest in performing in more regions around the world, including parts of Asia and South America they have not yet visited.

The group also hopes to hold more concerts in Korea so domestic fans will have more opportunities to see them perform live.

The showcase concluded with performances of “Back” and “Cold Moon,” leaving fans with a powerful reminder of the album’s central message: that every struggle can become part of a greater story of growth and victory.

As Big Ocean continues their journey, THE GREATEST BATTLE honors resilience—not only for the group, but for anyone fighting their own battles.

Thank you Jeanne for your take on their album. Yes I love their other albums but this by far is my absolute favorite. Each song has given me chills each time I listen to it. I love how there’s a story behind each song they wrote. So many can easily relate to each song. I personally relate it ‘Back’ and ‘Cold Moon’.
